Mrs. S. Padma (47) is a Post Graduate in Commerce (Master of Commerce) and Master of Social Work (MSW) is the Founder and Chief Functionary of the organization.. She has got married and having 2 girl children. She was worked with a NGO that has been working in Trichirapalli district for 15 years. Along with likeminded grassroots women leaders Mrs. Padma promoted Vasantham Pengal Sangam in 2005, a completely women headed organization. She has gained experiences in self-help group promotion, credit linkages, bank linkages, capacity building of women groups and its leaders, income generation activities, rights of children etc., over these years, as a NGO leader and NGO staff member. She is representing as President for the past one decade at Girls Higher Secondary School, Manachanallur. She is representing as committee member in Child Welfare Committee, Tiruchirappalli district, Manachanallur block. VPS has been working with 3000 families covering children, women, men and elders.


It believes in women`s power, knowledge and skills to take up the empowerment works among women, girls and other marginalized target groups in the target areas. All the 7 members of Vasantham Pengal Sangam are all women, who hail from grassroots and also committed to women empowerment. The decisions are being taken by members of the Vasantham Pengal Sangam and being executed by women staff and volunteers. We have a 5 staff team members among which only one staff member is a man who pro women and works for the same. Vasantham Pengal Sangam believes equality and equity and the resources should be shared and consumed by all equally without any discrimination on the basis of the caste, creed or religion. However it advocates for the social inclusion, social justice for the marginalized and the poorest people and families in the target area. Since we believe in feminist principles, our decision making body of Vasantham Pengal Sangam are only women and the staff members are all women except only one man staff. It is women are taking decisions, executing decisions into action and decisions on women empowerment programs. It is now being taking up the programs that empower the women socially and economically however there are long ways to go towards ensuring empowerment of women.

Vasantham Pengal Sangam educates the target women and girls on their rights as per laws and motivate them to get the girl children in schools, support the girl children education and seize the opportunities for free education to girls , special benets to girls who is a 1st graduate in her family, fees waivers, scholarships, stipends, free lap tops, bicycles, reservation to 33% women in Government jobs, reservation in Engineering, Arts and Science Colleges, Medical and Nursing, agriculture and veterinary colleges for girls. Vasantham Pengal Sangam educates and motivates women to participate in the village Panchayats that are non-political grassroots village councils to contest in their reserved as well as open constituencies or wards to get elected and serve their people without any discrimination and partiality and proved a gender sensitized governances at the grassroots democracies.

Vasantham Pengal Sangam is providing skills and livelihood training to women and girls so that they could get employment or start self-employment to make their livelihood on their own and also look after herself and her family and children. Our experience with women groups indicate that once women become economically self-reliant or making income, her voice is being heard in the family especially by her husband, and also he started to listen and consult before taking a decision on important matters related to family. Vasantham Pengal Sangam advocates for the women rights at the appropriate forum through networks, and with socials at various forums regularly.
